2012 Nissan Altima
2012 Nissan AltimaIntro
The front-wheel drive, five-passenger Nissan Altima combines performance and an attractive exterior as either a two-door coupe or a four-door sedan.
The Nissan Altima is powered by either a 175-hp 2.5-liter V6 or a 270-hp 3.5-liter V6 and the transmission choices include a six-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Altima trims include: 2.5 (sedan only), 2.5 S and 3.5 SR. Safety features include: four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, six airbags, active front head restraints, vehicle stability and traction control, front seat-belt pre-tensioners and a tire pressure monitoring system. For a sportier appearance the coupe's roofline is 2.6 inches lower than the sedan's and flows back into a long and nicely sculpted tail section that narrows between wide shoulders and prominent wheel arches. The suspension is tuned to provide the driver with a more nimble feel and heightened responsiveness.
The Altima carries on for 2012 with minimal changes.
[The four cylinder] is quite noisy at the top end.
It's not as good as a Passat inside, but then nothing in this class is.
Be afraid, Camry and Accord.
[The 3.5-liter V6] is incredibly smooth and powerful, like a turbo with no turbo lag.
More room inside than even the Maxima.
This four-cylinder powerplant has plenty of power and is very responsive in both urban and freeway environments.
Handsome and aggressive new body
Plenty of convenient storage areas and huge cupholders
With its big V6 and sports suspension, the Nissan Altima has suddenly turned into a sporty alternative to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
Gooseneck hinges...intrude into the useable [trunk] space.
It's one of those somewhat rare family sedans that actually stands out in the crowd and delivers on the expectations set by its looks.
The Altima [styling] succeeds because Nissan decided to emulate the Passat instead of Camry and Accord.
Nobody should feel claustrophobic in the rear seat.
Interiors were the weak link...the leather looked cheap...the plastics felt flimsy.
Nissan definitely doesn't want you asleep at the wheel.
Here's the cool feature...the radio provided memory settings for three different users.
